Tips for different hair types

Normal Hair Type: is the kind of hair that is not too dry or greasy, with a healthy scalp and does not require intensive care. Any shampoo meant for normal hair can be used and follow up hair care routine includes rinsing off with a light conditioner after a shampoo.

Dry Hair Type: is sometimes coarse and rough to the feel. Persons with dry hair need to use a moisturizing shampoo with an intensive conditioner or a de-frizzing treatment if the dry hair is unmanageable, creating a problem for hair styling. There are many special formulations for leave-in conditioners that are recommended for people with dry hair and these contain special herbs, nutrients like egg protein, keratin and vitamin-e to nourish the hair from the roots to the shafts. Dry hair may look dull and be difficult to comb or brush. It is often the result of excessive/amateur coloring or perming, heat-assisted styling or exposure to sun and chemicals, but naturally dry hair is also a possibility.

Oily Hair Type: is the accompaniment of an oily scalp and persons with this hair type need to use shampoos and hair rinses with a light conditioner so that the sebaceous glands stay balanced. If harsh products are used for oily hair, it can result in over activity of the sebaceous glands and increase the oil production, causing more greasiness or possible dandruff in the hair. Persons with oily hair should avoid applying conditioner to the scalp, avoid brushing hair often or vigorously as brushing transports oil from the roots to the ends of the hair, giving it the greasy look throughout. Clarifying shampoos, light conditioners for oily hair applied to the ends of hair and sebum regulating leave-in treatments like mousses/hairsprays are good beneficial.

Colored, permed or treated hair: needs extra care and conditioning, as it is fragile. Good hair care routine includes using a deep penetrating moisturizing shampoo and an intensive care conditioner that nourishes, smoothens and protects the hair while retaining its natural sheen. For swimmers in salt water or chlorinated pools, the option of swimming cap is smart protection. Color treated or permed hair is best cared for with gentle shampoos and conditioning hair masks/hair sunscreen.

Fine hair: is delicate in texture and at times, persons with such hair may consider heat treatments in the hope of giving the hair more volume and style, but this is a far cry from what actually happens to the hair. Instead of coloring or heat styling, fine hair can benefit from using specialized hair care products that lift the hair cuticles and boost volume by coating the hair and making it appear thicker. Styling gels and mousses can help style and smoothen fine hair without causing it long lasting damage.
